 A plaster model of the bronze sculpture was presented by Louis Rochet (1813–1878) in 1867 at the Universal Exposition, and was finally set on its marble base in front of Notre-Dame in 1895.

Quai des Orfèvres, with pont Neuf in the foreground, seen from pont des Arts. Built from 1580 to 1643, the street takes its name from the goldsmiths and jewelers whose shops were located there in the 16th century.
