 The original version of pont du Carrousel, finished in 1834, was replaced in 1930 when the bridge was deemed too narrow for twentieth-century traffic.

This picture dates from 2001, when the sculpture had been adopted as a shrine by those mourning the Lady Diana, whose car accident happened in the tunnel just underneath.

 The sculpture has been much renovated, cleaned and restored, though there usually are offerings left, and the area around the sculpture is covered with Diana Graffiti.
