Built in 70-80 AD, the Roman arena in Arles was was filled with tunnels, shops and houses during the middle ages. Restoration to its current state began in the 19th century.
 

The Roman Arenas in Arles are among the best preserved. They are still used for performances and bullfights, and can seat 13,000 people.
