At the beginning of the 20th century, «Les Demoiselles de Ménilmontant» was a certain kind of café. Workers of the neighborhood gathered at the end of the day, dirty elbows on greasy tables, to drink and forget. Some staggered upstairs to lie down with the pretty girls from the sidewalks of rue d'Angouleme, since renamed rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud.
