Since they were installed in 1840, the two fountains in place de la Concorde have been restored six times: in 1844, 1861, 1872, 1932, 1955 and 2001.

At least seven sculptors and artists were commissioned in the creation of the Fontaine des Fleuves: Jean-François-Théodore Gechter, Honoré-Jean-Aristide Husson, François Gaspard Aimé Lanno, Isidore-Hippolyte Brion, Antonin-Marie Moine, Jean-Jacques Elshoecht and Louis-Parfait Merlieux.
