The alliance between France and the American revolutionaries and, in 1783, the signature of the Treaty establishing the Independance of the United States were prepared in this building.
 

King Louis the 15th commissioned Jean-Baptiste Berthier to build the headquarters of his Ministry of Foreign Affaires and of the Marine in 1761. Today it houses one of Versailles’ municipal libraries.
