Le Génie de la Liberté, the sculpture at the top of colonne de Juillet behind trees in the winter. Also known as the «Le Génie de la Bastille», the statue, made of gilt bronze, was designed by Auguste Dumont in 1836. The 13 foot-tall sculpture represents a winged genius brandishing a torch in his right hand and the broken chains of despotism in his left, while jumping in to the air from his left foot.
