Women do this too, in a ceremony known as «L’enterrement de vie de jeune fille».  

A young man eating a hot dog at the corner of rue Vieille du Temple and rue Roi de Sicile. He is participating in a great tradition in France, «L’enterrement de vie de jeune garçon», the burial of the life of a young boy, his bachelor party. In this rite of passage people spend the day making complete, utter fools of themselves with their friends in public.
