The plaque reads, “To the glory of the French citizens who armed themselves and fought for the defense of public liberties in the memorable days of 27, 28, 29 July 1830.”

The July Column was built in place de la Bastille to commemorate the “three glorious” days in July 1830 that saw the fall of Charles X and the inauguration of the “July Monarchy” of Louis-Philippe.
