The Grande Galerie was built by King Henri IV (1589–1610). More than a quarter of a mile long and one hundred feet wide, it was the longest edifice of its kind in the world.
 

The musée du Louvre dates to August 10th, 1793, when the grande Galerie was opened to the public.
