The grotto supports a balustraded terrace from where, with the Grandes Cascades in the foreground, the gardens and the château are seen to great advantage.

The grottos at château Vaux-le-Vicomte, a massive wall with seven round-headed niches containing rock-work cascades. On its outer edges are recesses with giant reclining river gods by the sculptor, Matthieu Lespagnandel.
