Fouquet was jailed shortly after the opening celebrations of the château, and Louis 14th afterwards employed the designers for his palace at Versailles.

Château Vaux-le-Vicomte was built in 1658–61 for Nicholas Fouquet, the finance minister of King Louis the 14th.
