The fountains’ architect, Jacob Ignaz Hittorf took his inspiration from the fountains of Maderno in Saint Peter’s square in Rome.

Be careful as you approach the fontaine des Mers on a windy day. In the distance, you can see the National Assembly, across pont de la Concorde.
